Rehabilitation of Boreholes and Water Wells
Transforming neglected water sources into safe, reliable, and community-managed assets that support healthy and resilient communities.
Overview
Lifewater Community Kenya works in partnership with African Well Fund (USA) and local communities to rehabilitate dilapidated boreholes and water wells, as well as complete unfinished water facilities in Homa Bay County that have been abandoned over time.
Many of these water sources have become unsafe, exposing children, women, and the wider community to the risk of accidents, injuries, and waterborne diseases while also limiting access to safe and reliable water.
Currently in 2026, the organization is rehabilitating thirty (30) community water wells across Kabondo East Ward in Kabondo/Kasipul Constituency, significantly improving access to safe water for hundreds of households.
The Rehabilitation Process
Restoring damaged infrastructure through comprehensive interventions.
1. Assessment
Comprehensive evaluation of existing water sources to identify structural issues and rehabilitation needs.
2. Structural Repairs
Restoring damaged infrastructure through repairs, protective well linings, and covers.
3. Construction
Building aprons, drainage systems, and improving water lifting mechanisms for safe access.
4. Community Management
Establishing community management structures to ensure long-term sustainability and ownership.
